Julius (Yuli) Sergius Klever

The Russian landscape painter, Julius (Yuli) Sergius Klever, is well known for his Romantic Russian forestscapes and his exploration of sunlight through the trees. His sublime melancholy style earned him the title the “Russian Rembrandt.” He studied with S.Vorobyev and M.Klodt and at The Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and became a professor the Imperial Academy in St. Petersburg in 1881.
