November 7, 2010

Warsaw, Poland, 1883 – Paris, France, 1970

Henri Hayden studied art at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts. He arrived in Paris in 1907 to study continue his studies at La Palette for a year but quickly made the city his permanent home. Cezanne and Cubism were the classical influences on the young artist. In 1922, Hayden´s work became more figurative, and he began to focus more on landscape painting. He survived the war by taking refuge in the South of France during the German Occupation. His elegant works combine a richness of color with lyrical melancholy.
