Yosef Kossonogi

Budapest, Hungary, 1908 – Safed, Israel, 1981

The master of watercolor, Yosef Kossonogi, studied at the Berlin Academy of Art and in France, Holland, Italy and Spain. He moved to Israel in 1926 and settled in Tel Aviv but eventually became a member of the artist colony in Safed. His romantic and colorful work was very influenced by Henri Matisse and the bright sun of Israel.
