Simon Karczmar

October 5, 2010

Warsaw, Poland, 1903 –

Simon Karczmar is a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life´s work to remembrance of the beauty of Jewish life in the Shtetl. He moved to Paris in 1942 where he lived for twenty years before immigrating to Israel in 1962. Karczmar joined the Artists´ Quarter in Safed when he moved to Israel and has represented Israel in exhibitions all over the world. His works weep with a classic Eastern European naivety shrouded in dark sad colors.
