Niki De Phalle is one of the most famous feminist artists. Although born in France, she grew up in the United States and lived in many places in Western Europe. She is most well known for her “Nana” sculptures which address women´s roles in society. Her greatest work is a sculpture park full of monumental pieces in Tuscany called Giardino dei Tarocchi. She also completed a major sculpture/architecture project, Noah’s Ark, with Swiss architect Mario Botta, commissioned by the Jerusalem Foundation for The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem, Israel. Her works are characterized by a naïve sense of color and imaginative, fantastical creatures.
