Yechezkel Streichman

August 27, 2010

Kovno, Lithuania, 1906 – Tel Aviv, Israel, 1993

Yechezkel Streichman was one of the founders of the “New Horizons” group that worked to develop a style that was both modern and specifically Israeli. Streichman immigrated to Israel in 1924 and attended the Bezalel Academy of Art and Deisgn. He studied architecture in Paris and art at the Academy of Art in Florence and the Avni Institute. Streichman is a major figure in Israeli art and has been exhibited all over Israel. Streichman´s abstract, playful images frequently have the titles of places and can be read as landscapes but they often connote the meaning of the place as opposed to its appearance.
