Michael Kovner

August 9, 2010

Hadera, Israel, 1948

Born on Ein HaCharosh, Michael Kovner´s love for the land of Israel has followed him throughout his life. Although the style and perspective of the landscapes have changed throughout his career, Kovner has been continually charmed by Israel´s spaces from its farms to hills to deserts to lakes. He studied art at the New York Studio School and taught at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Kovner currently lives and works in Jerusalem. His paintings are ambiguous allowing the viewer to decide if they are critical or romantic. His rich jewel tone palette, unpopulated views and flat brush stroke allow a very honest and bare depiction of Israel, stripped of all connotations.
