Ephraim Moshe Lilien

Ephraim Moshe Lilien was one of the founding fathers of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and he is well known for his art Nuevo drawings and his photographs of Jewish and Zionist themes. He studied art at the Academy of Art in Krakow and the Academy of Art in Vienna. He immigrated to Israel in 1906 to help Boris Schatz set up Bezalel. Lilien´s photograph of Theodore Herzl of the Balcony of the Three Kings Hotel in Basel Switzerland during the 5th Zionist Conference is one of the most reproduced images if Herzl today. He illustrated many books including an edition of the Bible and a collection of Yiddish poetry. He is best known for his stylized black and white lithographs.
