Hilda May Gordon

July 23, 2010

London, England, 1874 – London, England, 1972

Hilda May Gordon was a British Archeologist and Watercolorist who traveled all over the East. She painted Romantic, Orientalist scenes of Singapore, Bali and many other Eastern countries but was especially enchanted by Israel. As an archeologist Gordon was much more interested in architecture and landscape than people. She never painted portraits and always to populated her scenes with traditional Arabs painted from afar.
