Mira Cedar

July 14, 2010

Tel Aviv, Israel, 1947

Mira Cedar´s artwork centers on family and issues of belonging. She studied philosophy and history at Hebrew University before becoming an artist. Much of her work is based on anonymous family photographs that she has collected over many years. These works create a voyeuristic window into the lives of others while opening a view into own lives and traditional family. Cedar began to make abstract works influenced by the read offs of an E.E. G. scanner while her youngest son who was born with a brain condition was undergoing treatment.
